The Most Rewarding Hour You Work May Be the One You Give Away
There are a vast array of volunteer opportunities in our community. These opportunities range from individual commitments to short-term group projects to ongoing programs. All of which include an important element—a mutual relationship between an individual and organization to carry-out a mission.
The Texas Organ Sharing Alliance is committed to providing an on-going variety of volunteer opportunities in the South and Central communities located in our service area. Our donor families, transplant recipients and individuals from the community-at-large are encouraged to assist with outreach educational programs which are consistent with the TOSA mission. Volunteerism is vital to meeting TOSA’s increasing demands from the general public to participate in donor awareness initiatives. With the national average value for volunteers at $18.04 an hour, utilizing volunteers represents a cost-savings of many thousands of dollars for a non-profit organization such as TOSA.
Our volunteer base currently represents donor families and transplant recipients exemplifying the spirit of volunteering by undertaking a variety of community projects. They are encouraged to share their donor/transplant experience while utilizing existing skills and developing new ones—thus engaging individuals in a rewarding volunteer experience. Through the commitment of their time, energy and talents, they participate in a service opportunity to position organ and tissue donation in the minds of potential donors.
Volunteers continue to be instrumental in assisting TOSA Hospital Services and Communications and Community Development Departments in training health care professionals and educating the community-at-large (ie: corporations, institutions of higher education and government agencies with such programs as “Workplace Partnership for Life”).
Without the unwavering support of our volunteer groups it would be impossible to accomplish all we do in South and Central Texas. If you are interested in volunteering, call the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance at (210) 614-7030 or (866) 685-0277 toll free and ask for the Donor Family and Volunteer Services Coordinator, Clarissa Thompson.
